Abstract | A sequential writing program is described that has adapted James Moffett's ideas in "Teaching the Universe of Discourse" to suit the needs of a seventh and eighth grade school system that emphasizes expository writing instruction. The introductory chapter explains Moffett's ideas and how they were adapted for this program. Subsequent chapters discuss the various writing modes and associated writing tasks. These modes include the dramatic, nonfiction narrative, fictional narrative, and expository modes. Other chapters discuss areas of concentration for grades seven and eight, the performance objectives of the program, a growth model for measuring writing, and selected measures corresponding to the performance objectives. An appendix contains additional writing tasks for the writing modes. (RL) |
