Abstract | A nine-year summary of the academic performance of "high-risk" students at the University of Pittsburgh is presented. The subjects investigated were 1,770 students who entered the University-Community Educational Programs (U-CEP) from 1968 to 1976. The report focused on the following areas: student academic backgrounds; student first-year performance; student attrition rates; and student graduation rates. Comparisons were made between U-CEP students and regular admits. The results showed that given the opportunity and adequate support, the "high-risk" student can succeed, although at a lower rate than the regular-admit student. (Author/SPG) |
