| Abstract | This report presents estimates of the distributions of perceptions of teachers and other school officials on selected behavioral characteristics of youths 12-17 years of age in the noninstitutional U.S. population by age and sex. These findings are based on questionnaire responses obtained from last schools attended by youths examined in the Health Examination Survey of 1966-70. A total of 6,867 youths were examined. Data are presented on various aspects of the behavior of in-school youths related to growth and development during the adolescent period, as seen by their teachers. In general, the responses suggest that adolescent girls appeared to be more successful than adolescent boys, particularly with respect to adjustment to the specific environment. This is consistent with the findings, based on measured performance in this survey, that girls had achieved higher scores on tests of school achievement even though boys showed higher scores on tests of intellectual development.
