Abstract | This guide was prepared to give an historical as well as a contemporary perspective on American Jewish authors and their writings. An introductory section presents information on such authors as Saul Bellow, Bernard Malamud, and Philip Roth; on the unique problems which Jewish writers have encountered in America; and on the breadth of current American Jewish writing. Other sections in the guide are devoted to (1) classroom activities and discussion topics concerning works by or about American Jewish authors for both average and superior high school students, (2) an annotated bibliography listing books on American Jewish life or authors, and (3) a 4-week model instructional unit, for grade 11, which lists weekly activities, reading materials, and instructional aids.
