Abstract	Education reforms in Latin America have significantly changed the panorama in terms of stability and incen-tives for teachers in the region in recent decades. The different governments try to establish mechanisms that allow them to have a better control of the budget, but in their eagerness to achieve objectives suggested by international organizations, such as the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), they establish policies that are not agreed upon with the unions in their elaboration. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to analyze the behavior of such education reforms in the Latin American context, with emphasis on the changes of recent decades. Documentary review and content analysis serve as a methodological basis for deriving a system of theoretical categories in atten-tion to the research topic. Among the results, categories such as the impact of well-paid teachers on the quality of education, as well as the role played by unions in the processes of consultation and dialogue with governments, stand out. It is concluded that there is a need to generate solid criteria that allow us to evaluate the current state of the education sector from an objective perspective, paying special attention to the system of income, permanence, promotions, and incentives for teachers in Latin America. ; Las reformas educativas en América Latina han cambiado significativamente el panorama en cuanto a estabilidad y estímulos para los docentes de la región en las últimas décadas. Los diferentes gobiernos intentan establecer mecanismos que les permitan tener un mejor control del pre-supuesto, pero en sus afanes por lograr objetivos sugeridos por organismos internacionales, como la Organización para la Cooperación y el Desarrollo Económico (OCDE), establecen políticas que no son concertadas con los sindicatos en su elaboración. Por tanto, el propósito del presente artículo se orienta a analizar el comportamiento de dichas reformas educativas en el contexto latinoamericano, con énfasis en los cambios de las últimas décadas. La revisión documental y el análisis de contenido sirven como fundamento metodológico para derivar un sistema de categorías teóricas, en atención a la temática de investigación. Entre los resultados destacan categorías como el impacto de los docentes bien remunerados en la calidad educativa, así como, la función realizada por los sindicatos en los procesos de concertación y dialogo con los gobiernos. Se concluye en la necesidad de generar criterios sólidos que permitan evaluar desde una perspectiva objetiva, el estado actual del sector educativo, teniendo especial atención al sistema de ingreso, permanencia, ascensos y estímulos al docente en Latinoamérica
