(DIPF/Orig.). Drawing on recent political science reseach on non-governmental organizations as central actors of a transnational civil society, this article investigates those organizations that have had a major influence on the children`s rights movement since the nineteenth century. The focus is primarily on the role of these organizations within the process of norm emergence, diffusion, and internalization and less on the analysis of the rights themselves. It is argued that the development and spead of children`s rights and their worldwide standardization depend on the existence of international non-governmental organizations and transnational networks as well as on their impact on the international political regime.
