| Abstract | The article focuses particularly on the institutional and functional differences between university-sector institutions and non-university institutions. After a brief outline of the quantitative trends the author looks at several specific features of the institutional differentiation processes and their current effects: social aspects of student bodies, contents and structures of studies, curricular changes, the problem of the blurring of boundaries between higher education sectors, and aspects of internal and external administration and autonomy. This in turn is followed by mentioning of the persisting differences between the employment opportunities afforded by different higher education sectors. Finally, some aspects of higher education policy in the context of European integration are mentioned. (DIPF/orig.). |
