| Abstract | The author describes three types of violence. He emphasizes that it is important to understand the various forms of logic behind violence, to try and distinguish between what stems from school itself and what does not. The plurality of the meanings of violence must be correlated with the major paradigms for the interpretation of violence which each inspire clusters of responses which schools have to combine. Violence occupies such an important place in schools today because it raises problems which are not strictly related to teaching method and are not solely connected with adapting schooling to employment, or even with the degree of acquisition of knowledge.
