Abstract | The article is divided into the following sections: 1) The production, collection and circulation of educational information at the national level in Scotland. 2) The use made of information and research in the reform of the curriculum and assessment of students in primary and lower secondary schools. 3) The dissemination and use of research studies: two examples. The first example is the evaluation of the implementation of the 5-14 development programme (for pupils aged 5- to 14 in Scotland), the second one is an evaluation of a pilot project introducing modern foreign language teaching into primary schools.
