Abstract | With a revised protocol for interviewing new tutors, Wawasan Open University (WOU) has continued its tutor training program for the second semester of operations. Having experienced working with the first cohort of tutors for semester 1, year 2007 it is evident that we have more confidence and appreciation for tutor training to support WOU's further offerings. With WawasanLearn (the LMS) made accessible to potential tutors much earlier more pretraining experiences are now possible with the delivery of the required information about tutoring. Use of Skype had increased the pace of interviewing and short listing of candidates for training. Improvements to the methods and presentation of specific information such as WawasanLearn, and question and answering sessions on tutoring had lead to further improvements to the training session's impacts. Refinements to the survey instruments had led to better analyses that support the approaches to tutor training at WOU. Paired "t" tests on before and after statements on tutoring have shown increase in the level of confidence or capabilities of these tutors. There were indications that a number of the "trained skills" are translated into actions in actual tutor-student interactions. (Contains 1 figure and 13 tables.) (As Provided). |
