Abstract | "Adults don't listen to me because they don't think I have anything interesting to say," an eleven-year-old boy explained to the authors of this article during one of the after-school focus groups that took place at Homer (Michigan) Community Schools. However, as part of the Youth Participatory Evaluation (YPE) team's effort to evaluate GAP programming based on five of the Search Institute's Forty Developmental Assets, the team spent a total of ten hours listening to what 64 fifth- and sixth-grade students had to say on everything from their daily routines to their wildest dreams. After all of this, they came away with the impression that these kids were anything but uninteresting. Sections in this article include: (1) Development of YPE; (2) Getting Acclimated; (3) Researching the Assets; (4) Methodology; (5) Data Analysis; (6) Homer's Findings; (7) Marshall's Findings; (8) Tekonsha's Findings; (9) Overall Findings; (10) Conclusions and Recommendations; (11) What We Learned; and (12) Conclusion.
