Abstract | Examines extent expectations of attendance in graduate program and its payoffs affect undergraduate major choice. Results explain why some students choose to major in fields associated with poor job prospects for undergraduate degree holders. Option to attend graduate school is not significant factor in choosing to major in computer science/engineering. Women are significantly less likely to select majors associated with higher future wages. (22 references) (MLH) |
