Abstract | Summarizes research showing principals' critical role in beginning special-education teachers' success or failure. Presents case studies/problem scenarios and explains how three beginning secondary special-education teachers from southern California attained success. Having the opportunity to speak frankly with support personnel and site administrators allowed all three teachers to experiment with various teaching techniques and explore solutions to challenging situations.
