Abstract | Early childhood professionals do many things to support young families. This is true now more than ever, as researchers continue to discover the long-term benefits of early, healthy, nurturing relationships. This article provides an overview of the development of an advanced practice perinatal depression algorithm created as a step-by-step guide for home visitors working with mothers with depressive symptoms. The algorithm was developed in response to the number of elevated Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS; Cox, Holden, & Sagovsky, 1987) results observed by a network of Wisconsin home visiting programs working with mothers prenatally through the first years of the child's life.
