Abstract | Many factors revolve around scholarly writing, especially in an RN to BSN program. Many nursing leaders have reported scholarly writing as an area students struggle with during their academic careers. Online writing orientations can help aid in this dilemma, yet few universities are currently using this option. There is little research to support the use specifically in RN to BSN programs. The purpose of this project is to determine if a writing orientation before beginning an RN to BSN program impacts the final project evaluation of APA and writing mechanics in N424 Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice. The study utilized an online writing orientation as the intervention based on Knowles Adult Learning Theory. The study used a quantitative retrospective non-experimental before and after study using historical control data to determine if a writing orientation before beginning an RN to BSN program impacts final project evaluation of APA and writing mechanics in N424 Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice. The study consisted of a total participant group of N = 58 at a four-year public university. A Mann-Whitney U test revealed statistically significant data for using a writing orientation to assist with APA formatting; however, it did not find statistically significant data for using a writing orientation to assist with writing mechanics.
