Abstract | This study attempted to improve the experiences of LGBTQ students at Evangelical Christian University (ECU). After seeking input from LGBTQ students to understand their needs, four primary focus areas emerged: facilitate support groups, plan chapels and special events on sexuality, emphasize compassion in the institutional policy, and increase sensitivity through training. These priorities provided direction for the action research items. Several themes emerged upon analysis of the change efforts: exceeding expectations, perspective, leadership, resistance, and courage. The actions were effective in improving the experiences of LGBTQ students at ECU. The information could also serve as a framework for other Christian institutions of higher education that seek to better support LGBTQ students. Equally important were growing as a change leader and learning to lead with courage. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
