Abstract | This bulletin contains the lists of institutions accredited, approved, or classified by national and regional associations concerned with the progress of higher education in general and special fields. Several associations have undertaken the accrediting of colleges, junior colleges, and teacher-training institutions. While the standards which these organizations employ tend toward uniformity, some variation in them exists due to the necessity of providing for conditions peculiar to the sections of the county covered by the different organizations. Each list of colleges, junior colleges, and teacher-training institutions is therefore accompanied by the standard according to which the institutions have been judged. In addition to these associations, there are several others which have drawn up requirements for the several types of collegiate institutions and although they have not attempted to prepare accredited lists, their activities have had considerable influence on the standards of higher education. The requirements of these organizations are, therefore, also included in the bulletin. The following associations are represented in the bulletin: (1) American Council on Education; (2) Association of American Universities; (3) Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools of the Middle States and Maryland; (4) Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools of the Southern States; (5) New England Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools; (6) North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools; (7) American Association of Junior Colleges; (8) American Association of Teachers Colleges; (9) American Association of Collegiate Schools of Business; (10) American Association of Schools and Departments of Journalism; (11) Council on Medical Education and Hospitals of the American Medical Association; (12) Dental Educational Council of America; (13) American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy; and (14) American Library Association. For convenience in locating information concerning individual colleges or schools, an index of the names of all the institutions contained in the bulletin is appended.
