Abstract | "Education Matters" is the monthly newsletter of the Association of American Educators (AAE), an organization dedicated to advancing the American teaching profession through personal growth, professional development, teacher advocacy and protection. This issue of the newsletter includes: (1) National Standards Gain Steam: Governors' Support Rooted in Concerns over Competition (David J. Hoff); (2) Minnesota Miracle with Math Turnaround: An Interview with Its Hero; and (3) Who Gets Thrown Overboard? Is It Time to Retire the Old Adage "Last Hired, First Fired"?
