Abstract | The last reauthorization of the Workforce Investment Act was in 1998. To say that times have changed would be an understatement. The testimony of this hearing's witnesses shows that people have ideas and tested practices that work. They just need the resources and the sustained commitment to have a world-class workforce development system that works for those starting at the bottom rung of the career ladder as well as for those racing to the top. Members testifying before the committee were the Honorable Ruben Hinojosa, Chairman, Subcommittee on Higher Education, Lifelong Learning, and Competitiveness and Honorable Paul Tonko, a Representative in Congress from the State of New York. Witnesses testifying before the committee were: Gail B. Breen, executive director, Fulton, Montgomery, and Schoharie Counties Workforce Development Board, Inc.; Nanine Meiklejohn, senior legislative representative, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME); Mario Musolino, Executive Deputy Commissioner, New York State Department of Labor; Tom Quick, human resources leader, power & water, GE Energy Infrastructure; and Joseph T. Sarubbi, executive director, Training and Education Center for Semiconductor Manufacturing and Alternative and Renewable Technologies (TEC-SMART), Hudson Valley Community College. (ERIC). |
