AbstractAs with their first hearing, the members focused on new innovations and best practices that will improve the workforce development system. In this hearing, the witnesses share the practices that have been most successful in their experience with the workforce investment system. Members testifying before the Committee were the Honorable Brett Guthrie, Ranking Minority Member, Subcommittee on Higher Education, Lifelong Learning, and Competitiveness; Honorable Ruben Hinojosa, Chairman, Subcommittee on Higher Education, Lifelong Learning, and Competitiveness; and Honorable George Miller, Chairman, Committee on Education and Labor. Witnesses testifying before the committee were: Cheryl Keenan, Director of Adult Education and Literacy, Office of Vocational and Adult Education, U.S. Department of Education; Bob Lanter, legislative committee chairman, California Workforce Association (CWA) executive director, Contra Costa Workforce Development Board; John Morales, president, National Workforce Association; Charissa Raynor, executive director, SEIU Healthcare NW Training Partnership, on behalf of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU); George A. Scott, Director of Education, Workforce and Income Security Issues, U.S. Government Accountability Office; Kevin G. Smith, executive director, Literacy New York, Inc.; and Sandi Vito, on behalf of the National Governors Association. (ERIC).
