Abstract | In 2006, the Center for Teaching Quality (CTQ) and its Teacher Leaders Network (TLN) successfully launched the TeacherSolutions initiative--a unique approach to elevating the voices of accomplished teachers on policy issues affecting their profession and the students they serve. In the inaugural TeacherSolutions project, 18 of the nation's best teachers focused their attention on professional compensation, researching past efforts to create alternative pay models, and crafting innovative solutions based on their understanding of the professional work of teachers. They developed a framework, which is premised on the idea that teachers must be rewarded for helping students meet or make significant progress toward high academic standards. In this report, highly accomplished Kansas teachers encourage statewide education stakeholders to embrace teacher leaders as important partners in the consideration of compensation plans that could strategically promote desirable student learning outcomes. A list of TLN-Kansas Team Members is appended. (Contains 14 endnotes and embedded podcasts.) (ERIC). |
