AbstractThis report summarizes the discussions at a workshop convened by the Forum on Adolescence of the Board on Children, Youth, and Families. The goal of the workshop was to provide an opportunity to learn about the work and preliminary findings of 16 projects and to review the knowledge base on the effectiveness of interventions designed to promote peaceful, respectful relations among youth of different ethnic groups. The report summarizes presentations at the workshop, reflecting the views and statements of those attending. Topics are grouped into these chapters: (1) "Improving Intergroup Relations among Youth"; (2) "This Rich and Growing Diversity"; (3) "The Meaning of Positive Intergroup Relations"; (4) "Youth and Identity Formation"; (5) "Schools and Their Influence"; (6) "The Power of Teachers"; (7) "Curricula as Tools"; (8) "School-Based Extracurricular Activities"; (9) "Peer Influence"; (10) "At Home: Parents and Their Influence"; (11) "In the Community"; (12) "The Role of Media and Technology"; and (13) "Toward a New Research Agenda: The Challenges."
