Abstract | This document presents minimum standards for approval of gifted and talented programs that meet the requirements of the Standards of Accreditation adopted by the Arkansas State Board of Education February 22, 1984, which have been effective since June 1, 1987. Included are guidelines enabling school districts to: (1) establish equitable criteria for identification of gifted and talented students; (2) establish programs that will lead to appropriate educational opportunities for these students; and (3) establish procedures to evaluate the effectiveness of the provisions of these educational opportunities. Standards for approved programs address the following: definitions, community involvement, staff development, personnel, identification, program options, curriculum, and evaluation. Appendices include lists of state and federal organizations related to gifted education and relevant web sites and electronic mail addresses. (CR) |
