Abstract	An introduction lists the council members and observers present at the meeting, and a summary is provided of the following meeting business: (1) opening of the session by the director-general, Amadou-Mahtar M'Bow; (2) election of the bureau; (3) adoption of the agenda; (4) examination of the General Information Programme's current activities in the light of the council's recommendations at its fifth session; (5) examination of the preliminary draft outline of the General Information Programme for 1988-89; (6) proposals for action in seeking voluntary contributions within the framework of the intergovernmental council for the General Information Programme; (7) examination of proposed amendments to the rules of procedure; (8) miscellaneous business; (9) duties of the bureau until the seventh session of the council; (10) date and venue of the seventh session; (11) adoption of the recommendations; (12) adoption of the report; and (13) closure of the session. Three appendices include the agenda, the opening speech of the director-general, and a listing of the participants. (KM)
