Abstract | This competency-based basic course outline is designed for a two-year secondary program in computer maintenance technology. The first year is devoted to basic electricity and electronics, the second to the troubleshooting, maintenance, and service of microcomputers. (The repair section is based upon the Apple II computer, disc drive, monitor, and printer.) This outline includes only the basic skills and technical information to be taught and should be supplemented with other complementary and necessary areas of related instruction. Ten major blocks of instruction cover orientation, basic skills, direct current circuits, alternating current circuits, semiconductor theory, digital electronics, electronic systems, electronic circuits, microcomputer repair, and entrepreneurship. Each major block is comprised of two to seven minor blocks, which are composed of 1 to 11 tasks. For each task are provided the aim and a course overview that includes information and task detail (an outline of related knowledge and listing of task detail), suggestions for teaching, and recommended references and aids. A bibliography is followed by information for the vocational industrial teacher on developing a functional course of study. (YLB) |
