Abstract | Results of a self-assessment of the doctoral program in higher education at the University of Georgia are presented. The Graduate Program Self-Assessment Service questionnaires were administered to 43 graduates, 12 currently-enrolled graduate students, and 14 faculty members. Areas of assessment for the graduates included: average number of years since graduation, type of employment, productivity, and reasons for earning the doctorate. For currently-enrolled students, concerns were: ethnic background, current jobs, preferred job activity, financial aid, grade point average, and number of years since receiving the undergraduate degree. Areas of concern for faculty included academic rank, full- versus part-time employment, highest degree held, time spent in instructional and noninstructional tasks, and time since receiving the doctoral degree. Faculty, student, and alumni ratings were also obtained on: the learning environment, scholarly excellence, quality of teaching, faculty concern for students, the curriculum, departmental procedures, available resources, student commitment/motivation, student satisfaction, student assistantships, departmental performance, faculty work environment, dissertation experiences, and faculty research and professional activities.
