Abstract	A project provided 2,307 high school juniors in 44 schools in Kansas with a career planning experience through use of the Career Planning Program (CPP), a career guidance instrument. Twelve area vocational-technical school counselors functioned as technical skills trainers to high school counselors and as test materials liaison persons. Data were collected from 1,948 of those students with the Student Needs Assessment Survey (SNAS). The suggested procedure in use of CPP and SNAS was a four-step process: preassessment activities to initiate student thinking about career decision making; assessment; interpretation sessions; and followup activities involving students, parents, and others. Student and counselor evaluations indicated they placed high value on the benefit of the experience. Student needs were identified in such areas as obtaining information and experience in areas related to career exploration and choice, obtaining more specific information about postsecondary educational possibilities, increasing skills in various educational areas, and learning more about self and others through counseling.
