| Abstract | Today, with the influx of media production courses across the country, students can intimately experience the differences between acting for the stage and acting for the screen and learn to shape their performances for a two-dimensional image. Such a course in video and film acting was introduced at the University of Arkansas. Students enrolled for three hours of credit and met twice a week for an hour and a half, with the television studio available outside of class as needed. The thrust of the course was commercial in tone and practical in execution. Students performed monologues and dramatic duets selected from realistic plays, delivered commercials and public service announcements, and acted in films scripted by the student directors under the instructor's supervision. Theorizing was kept to a minimum. Discussion is given to the organization and content of the course, and to the tentative solutions to several problems that arose. (HOD) |
