Abstract | The viewpoints of concerned parties in Georgia are synthesized regarding the postsecondary educational system in the state. Major issues that need to be addressed, and agendas for action in the immediate future are outlined, followed by an overview of postsecondary educational opportunities in Georgia describing the principal characteristics, governance and enrollments of all four postsecondary sectors and briefly summarizes other types of programs available in the state. Detailed issue statements, preceded by a section that describes the process through which the issues were determined, describe major problems (such as the need for efficient and effective use of public resources and the need for effective funding and budgeting), show what, if anything, has been done to remedy them, indicate principal improvements needed, and propose recommendations for action. Appendixes include listings of Georgia colleges and universities (public and private), lists of Georgia public vocational-technical schools, proprietary colleges and schools (state approved in and out of state), out of state colleges located at military bases in Georgia, and a table showing Georgia's public and private collegiate enrollment (1965-78).
