Abstract | Project CIVTEC was conducted through the Columbia, South Carolina State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education in cooperation with the National Science Foundation and has developed an individualized instructional approach, based on mastery learning, for eleven core curriculum courses in Civil Engineering Technology. The basic format for each course was a combination of written modules forming a linear progression through a series of related objectives. The written material was broadened by a series of alternate media presentations for students having difficulty understanding the concepts presented in the modules. A state-wide evaluation was conducted in the final year of the project comparing the individualized approach with a more traditional lecture-based approach. (Author/RC) |
