Abstract | The academic performance during Fall 1972 of regular admits, scholarship award winners, and disadvantaged students admitted under the exceptions admissions policy at the University of Maryland Baltimore County is analyzed. Comparisons are made of the effect of tutorial assistance provided by the UMBC Learning Resources Center upon the grade point average of the disadvantaged students. Disadvantaged students who participated in the intensive study skills summer session performed better than the students who only had the fall tutorial assistance. All groups of disadvantaged students tended to have a lower GPA than the rest of the entering freshman class. The females in these categories achieved a higher GPA than the males. (Author) |
