Abstract	This publication is designed to help teachers introduce pupils to the role of music, dance, and poetry in the civilization and culture of the Ancient Greeks and Romans. It may be used as an interdisciplinary course for secondary school pupils or to expand curricular offerings in Latin and Greek. Focusing on the pervasive influence of music within these cultures, examples of ancient music, descriptions of dances performed and excerpts of classical literature are all included. Unit 1 gives background information to the teacher regarding the study of music as part of Greek and Roman education and the attitudes toward music in those cultures. Names for musical instruments and drawings of them, Latin songs, music and lyrics, the place of music in mythology, and the dance in the ancient world are all discussed in the remaining four Units. A bibliography for teachers, musical versions of Horace's "Odes," ano a form for evaluating the guide are also included. (SCC)
