Abstract	This book is a collection of 20 articles and research reports that deal with practical, technical issues of research methodology applicable to the study and evaluation of today's schools. The evaluation techniques suggested are aimed primarily at educational reform and improvement, rather than revolutionary change. Because all the authors are currently engaged in programmatic research efforts, emphasis of the various articles is on practical rather than theoretical problems. Topics discussed include teacher evaluation, needs assessment, observation and rating instruments for assessing teaching and learning processes, evaluation of instructional media, large-scale statistical studies of educational performance and equality of opportunity, spatial analyses of educational data in a geographic area, and standardized test correlates of heredity, home environment, and schooling.
