Abstract | In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, India suspended the majority of its social and economic activities, including sports from March 15, 2020. The nation-wide lockdown imposed from March 25 brought immediate and long-term implications for India's formal and informal economy. Due to the lockdown, India's sports ecosystem faced serious fractures in terms of the financial loss it incurred; the future of leagues, clubs, academies, and people associated with them remains undecided. This chapter focuses on the sports of football and cricket to explore two important questions: What immediate challenges did professional leagues, clubs, small academies, and sport for development NGOs face in cricket and football? How did these sports organizations and bodies mitigate risks and adjust in the lockdown landscape? (geändert). (Autor). |
