Abstract | This essay argues that the history of neighbours in Russian history textbooks is presented mainly from the point of view of the Russian state. In the beginning, Scandinavia is featured; later, it is largely the western territories that appear, annexed by the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. While the handbook for teachers is formulated in a more patriotic vein, the textbooks reflect the various views of their authors. |
