Abstract | The formation of States, when politico-ideological traditions are being abandoned and replaced, is problematic for decision-making because the heterogeneity of values, ideology and politics of professionals is not firmly based. In such circumstances, public sector (education, health, social services etc.) solutions are accepted in line with the values of those in authority, thus granting the legitimacy of their implementation in practice. Education, in particular, is an area of special public interest with various political stake-holders building their own identity by personifying and affirming different professionally specific views on education as their personal views. Hence, solution resolution decisions in educational systems usually have a political as well as a professional dimension in the sense of research-based solutions. In focusing on the Slovenian situation, this chapter highlights positive and negative effects of recent political decisions. On the basis of research data, it also contends that the planning of school and sport programmes should build on research evidence and experience, should be organisationally well-designed and should also receive financial support at local and national levels. In the current "high risk" society, it is important to act swiftly as soon as the negative influences of lifestyle changes on the health of children and youth become apparent. However, remedial and/or preventative measures should be based on in-depth analyses of such changes and with consideration of the social environment. Aus der Einleitung. |
