Abstract | This book focuses on recent empirical and theoretical advances in the study of memory development in infancy and early childhood and on mechanisms of developmental change. In each of two sections, one on short-term (or working) memory and one on long-term memory, four ... chapters address five questions: What kind of memory is being studied? How do we measure this type of memory? How does it develop? What are the mechanisms underlying this development? What questions are on the horizon for the study of this type of memory? Each section includes two commentary chapters by leading scholars that provide an overview of the issues and put into context points of controversy and agreement in the other chapters.
