Abstract	"The case study concentrates on two issues which affect the current state of vocational education and training in Romania fundamentally. They are 1) major changes in the social and economic environment of vocational education; 2) the rift between the education system and the economic system as a result of those changes." Section one describes the social and economic context of vocational education and training (VET). Section two characterises some lines of change especially concerning new actors and priorities of the education system. Section three shows the organization of the Romanian vocational education system on the base of its legal framework. Section four deals with the prospects for cooperation between enterprises and vocational training institutions. There are three annexes. The first one presents the scheme of the structure of the education system. The second annex offers general datas on different fields of economic and social life. The third annex includes texts from legislative decisions regarding education, qualification, continuing education, and social assistance. (DIPF/St.).
