Abstract	A necessary choice between educational technology and traditional tools is often mentioned. At the University Distance Learning Centre of Reims persons in charge strive to organise a gradual and coherent evolution. On the one hand they participate in projects resorting to an advanced use of information technology, on the other hand they build multimedia software that learners can use immediately. A project of language courses on the Internet is carried out. Collaboration between 5 countries of the EU (Great Britain, Germany, Spain, Greece and France). Objectives: to insist on individual learning strategies, the development of guided autonomy, the discovery of other cultures and the use of practical communication situations with direct contacts.
