Abstract | "Quality Assessment is a rising issue in Finland. During the 1990s quality assessment has been initiated both at the nationwide disciplinary level and at the level of institutions. These "total institutional evaluations" have been supported by the Ministry of Education. The article focuses on the attitudes and opinions of academic communities towards quality assessment in three Finnish universities. The results will be analyzed from the cultural viewpoint aiming at understanding and explaining the differences in the opinions with the help of disciplinary cultures, institutional memory or institutional mission. The nature of peer review - a theme methodologically related to quality assessment processes - will be reflected on the basis of the Finnish experience." (DIPF/Abstract uebernommen). |
