Abstract | This article aims to review the literature of journals in German-speaking countries published between 2015 and early 2017 concerning physical activity behaviour and physical activity enhancement in children and adolescents. In this review, we concentrate on papers that focus on health enhancement and health behaviour in different settings (school, sports club or community) with a special focus on physical education. The current state of German-speaking research on internal and external determinants of physical activity behaviour in children and adolescents will be presented and the changes in physical activity behaviour over time will be revealed. Furthermore, the article describes effects on sedentary behaviour and cognitive processes through physical activity enhancement and presents articles with focus on interventions on physical activity enhancement in different target groups. Studies show how physical education (PE) can support physical activity enhancement and what the criteria are for good and constructive education in this field. The knowledge about determinants and effects of PA or sedentary behaviour assists with the development of interventions to promote PA and to broaden pedagogical competencies in PE teachers and in health promoters. Based on the articles, we divided the articles into two main categories and several sub categories. The two main categories are Determinants of Physical Activity Behaviour and Sedentary Behaviour and Interventions and Outcomes of Physical Activity Enhancement. Each category and sub category is represented by several German- speaking articles that are summarized below. (geändert). (Autor). |
