Abstract | The Comprehensive School Mathematics Program (CSMP) is a program of CEMREL, INC., one of the national educational laboratories, and is funded by the National Institute of Education. Its major purpose is the development of curriculum materials in mathematics for grades K-6. Beginning in September, 1973, CSMP began an extended pilot trial of its Elementary Program. This report describes the interviews conducted with 18 second grade teachers at the end of the 1974-75 school year. These were teachers of classes which began using CSMP materials in the first grade the previous year; students of the teachers had completed two years of the CSMP program. Teachers were generally impressed with the overall program and many specific aspects of it. Some concern was still expressed about the program meeting the needs of low ability students. (RH) |
