Abstract | The Comprehensive School Mathematics Program (CSMP) is a program of CEMREL, Inc., one of the national educational laboratories, and is funded by the National Institute of Education. Its major purpose is the development of curriculum materials in mathematics for grades K-6. Beginning in September, 1973, CSMP began an extended pilot trial of its Elementary Program. This report compares the performance of two groups of first grade CSMP students; the teachers of the first group were new to CSMP and the teachers of the second group were teachers who had previously taught CSMP. Considered were various questions regarding the teachers, the students, and the materials. It was concluded that CSMP teachers did just as well the second year as the first; any loss of novelty was offset by experience. The data appeared to support evaluations in the first year of the program. (RH) |
