Abstract | Examined in this study were the identified frames of reference and locus of control used by 478 student affairs administrators. Administrator responses were examined to identify frames of reference most commonly used and their preference order. Locus of control most commonly used and the relationship between frames of reference and locus of control with administrator characteristics were also investigated. Study results revealed that administrators surveyed had a high preference for the Human Resource Frame of Reference and External Chance Locus of Control. Results also revealed a number of statistically significant correlations between preferred frames of reference, locus of control, and administrator characteristics. These results present new knowledge on the frames of reference and locus of control predominantly used by student affairs administrators in formulating their perceptions, attitudes, and ultimately behaviors and decisions.
