Abstract | Communities In Schools (CIS) is a nationwide network of professionals who work in public schools to surround students with a community of support that empowers them to stay in school and achieve in life. CIS serves 1.3 million students by working within the public school system to determine students' needs and establish relationships with local businesses, social service agencies, health care providers, and parent and volunteer organizations to provide needed resources. Through a school-based coordinator (known as a site coordinator), CIS strategically aligns and delivers resources so that students can focus on learning. This unique model is known as "integrated student services." This extremely validated model of integrated services increases student engagement, academic achievement, and graduation rates. This article presents some of the important steps and procedures that CIS uses to effectively integrate core elements. (ERIC). |
