Abstract | The current downturn in the economy combined with the need for students to aptly verbalize their knowledge, skills, and abilities influences their search for employment and application to graduate school programs, making this topic timely. Finding ongoing methods for communication students to detail and reflect on their skills and abilities as well as helping them present these to a future employer are both important to the student's development and happen through the academic process. Much of this reflection often occurs in a business and professional course and the execution of an electronic portfolio is a good fit in this type of class. Electronic portfolios are a collection of work, experiences and skills of a student that are managed usually by a web software program. Students should create an electronic portfolio to demonstrate skills they have learned in college; to stand out from the pool of applicants who vie for the same jobs; and to showcase their personal and academic accomplishments. This article details a series of suggested activities that can be used in the creation of an electronic portfolio. (ERIC). |
