Abstract | This article discusses the emergence of a "postsecular age" in American higher education: an age in which the academic study and practice of spirituality is alive and well. This emerging age stands in contrast to the centuries-old secular age with its origins in the empirical revolution of seventeenth-century Europe. In the secular age, objective reality is the only area worthy of scholarly inquiry. The study and practice of spirituality have shaped a major movement in higher education. In this article, the author cites recent studies of campus spirituality that review and explain the movement, and offers some general suggestions on how one can increase participation in the postsecular age.
