AbstractWhat do the Internet, mobile phones, SATs, global warming, wetsuits, wind farms, laptops, recycling bins, iPods, the NLS and the Beckhams have in common? Answer: virtually no one had heard of any of these in 1986, when the first issue of "PSR" came out. The world of children and teachers has clearly changed since then. So what of "PSR" itself? "Primary Science Review" came into being as the ASE's response to the great changes that were taking place in the mid-1980s in primary education. The National Curriculum and the introduction of formal assessment and testing were about to happen; the "Science 5-16" governmental policy statement had recently been introduced, requiring all children and teachers to include science in their work; and the SPACE and STAR research programmes were bringing concept development, process skills and constructivism to the forefront. This article focuses on ten years of "Primary Science Review" and discusses the challenges "PSR" faced for the past ten years and the major challenges it will face for the next ten years. (ERIC).
