Abstract | The University at Albany Police and the University at Albany Athletics Department have teamed together to implement a ground breaking program aimed at identifying, addressing and managing negative behavior among student athletes. ATLAS stands for: Athletics, Team Building, Leadership Development, And Mentoring for Student Athletes. The program was created by Police Officer Robert Williams of the University at Albany Police Department in response to increasing incidents among student athletes resulting in either university-based judicial or criminal sanctions. ATLAS combines three comprehensive core modules: officer liaison, leadership development/team building and mentoring into a program that works symbiotically with athletics and the campus judicial affairs department. ATLAS also serves the athletic community by becoming an added layer of assistance in matching the student athlete with any of the countless services offered by the University at Albany. (ERIC). |
