Abstract | Even in the best financial times, the relationship between the development office and the alumni association can be uneasy. While some alumni leaders would never try to calculate an event's success in funds raised, others find that their most important and successful events happen with development goals in mind. There may never be a consensus about how much an alumni association should focus on the bottom line and how much it should concentrate on connecting alumni to the institution. Smart alliances may look very different from one institution to another, but it is clear that both the fundraising and alumni relations functions are critical to an institution's overarching goal of creating a stronger, more vital organization. In this article, the author discusses how alumni associations shift between making alumni connections and supporting development goals. (ERIC). |
